For its twenty-first consecutive year, the Bemidji Sculpture Walk has premiered new artwork downtown. Sixteen sculptures by artists from across the country were installed by the BSW Committee in late-May.
This year’s sculptures include artworks of wood, steel, brass, aluminum, rocks, and recycled tools, farm equipment and auto parts.
Self-guided sculpture tours can be done downtown using the interactive Google Map available on smartphones and computers from the BSW website: bemidjisculpture.com.
Critic’s Choice Awards Given
The Critic’s Choice Awards given annually by the Bemidji Sculpture Walk Committee were selected for sculptures exhibited from May 2019 thru May 2020.
James Mages was chosen 1st for his “Wheat Harvest.” It’s on permanent display at the Harmony Natural Foods Co-op in Bemidji. He’s from Hays, Kansas. Sunghee Min was chosen 2nd for her modernistic “Cube” sculpture. She’s from Rosedale, Minnesota.
The winners were selected by art judge Aaron Spangler, an internationally-exhibited sculptor and printmaker who lives and works in Park Rapids.
The Bemidji Sculpture Walk is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 that seeks, selects, acquires (on loan), displays and maintains sculptures in downtown Bemidji in the interest of public arts and cultural promotion and in support of downtown businesses.
